Let us tell the story of the beginnings of our church and how we became what we are today. Over 30 Years ago God led a small group to come together for the faithful preaching and teaching of the scriptures. Though just a few in number God was glorified as the pulpit rang with the doctrines of Gods Sovereign grace.Sovereign Grace began in a small living room out in the Hatzic Lake area. There were 16 Adults and 7 children present Sunday August 28th 1983. Due sincere interest and prayerfulness it was agreed to press forward and establish ourselves as an organized Christian fellowship.
The desire was that, Lord willing, this whole endeavor of beginning a new church would be based upon:
1. Love and dedication to Jesus Christ 2. Prayer and
3. A firm doctrinal stand.
On Sunday September 18th 1983 We met for our first official service in the Silverdale Elementary. It was there that we welcomed our new and returning pastor, Reverend Cecil Savage and his wife Joan. What a day that was as we rejoiced and sang the hymn, To God Be The Glory. Sunday September 25th 1983 Rev. Savage preached his first sermon as senior pastor of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church. The Lord was gracious to lead us to that place. Praise His Name.Sunday November 13th 1983 We moved and began services in the One Room school house, Silverhill elementary. The rent at that time was $150.00. Those who wished to be charter members signed the government registration papers. The prayer was that we all work together in the expansion of the Gospel message within our community.
On April 1st 1984 The congregation met for the first time in the Church of God 7th Day building on Hyde Street. The Church of God 7th Day welcomed us to rent the facilities for $175.00. After some twenty five years the Lord opened the door fo us to meet in the Fraserview School on 7th Avenue. We are now thankful to be meeting the wonderful new facilities of Valley Christian School on Cedar Street.
In the past years the Lord has blessed the church with solid Bible preaching and teaching.
The Lord has taken home some very faithful believers in the past few years. He has also brought in many others to carry on the work of the ministry.
May the Lord continue to guide us till the day he calls us home.
